Janko Roettgers has created a neat mashup of Yahoo Pipes, Yahoo Local and Plazes to create Plazes Local Search:

All you need to do is enter your “Plazes user number” (click on your username wherever you see it at Plazes.com — your ;Plazes user number” is the numeric part of the URL), a search term (like “coffee shop” or “bar”) and a distance in miles; what gets returned is Yahoo Local information for the area around your current Plazes location (obviously you need to be “checked in” to Plazes for this to work!).

The mashup only works if you’re in the US (because that’s where Yahoo Local works). And note that the search results are from Yahoo’s search, they’re not (necessarily) plazes.
